Vivaldi's Five Seasons The Quintessence of the Four Seasons. The "Four Seasons“ by Antonio Vivaldi belong to the most-played works in the classical repertoire. Despite this fact, they don't become boring or tiring to hear. They still retain your youthful freshness, which convinced 5 saxophonists to make their own recordings in 2007. The Quintessence Saxophone Quintet has made a "Concerto grosso“, of the piece, all saxophones playing their share in the solo seat. Even more astounding the most untypical instrumentation with two (!) soprano saxophones, one alto, one tenor and one baritone saxophone. Seeing as Vivaldi's music is a wonderful catalyst for breeding new ideas, Uli Lettermann has composed a "Fifth Season", taking some motival reference to the previous ideas of Vivaldi. All in all: A wonderful new and inspiring work with its origin based on the music of Antonio Vivaldi. After the successful CD „Moving Mozart“ we again hear excellent arrangements, recommendable for anyone curious with a interest in something rather special.
